THE COLORADO CHAUTAUQUA
DISCOVER WHAT MATTERS
The Colorado Chautauqua is considered THE western representation of the “chautauqua movement” that swept the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is the only chautauqua west of the Mississippi that has continuously operated with its original structures intact, largely used for their original purposes. Located at the base of the Flatirons, the Colorado Chautauqua is one of only 28 National Historic Landmarks in the state of Colorado and one of the few remaining chautauquas in the United States. Now in its second century, the Colorado Chautauqua attracts over one million visitors each year while remaining committed to its historic purpose. We offer outstanding musical, arts and educational programs, charming accommodations in our historic cottages and lodges, indoor and outdoor meeting space, wedding and celebration venues, coffee, ice cream and shopping at our very own General Store, fine dining at the historic Dining Hall, and direct access to 40 miles of trails and thousands of acres of open space.
Mission
The Colorado Chautauqua preserves, perpetuates and improves the historic site and spirit of Chautauqua by enhancing its community and values through cultural, educational, social and recreational experiences.
Statement of Values
The Chautauqua experience is based on lifelong learning, love of nature, voluntary simplicity, music, oration and the arts. Historic significance, traditions, cultural relevance, respite and enrichment are among the community benefits provided by the Colorado Chautauqua.
Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Chautauqua belongs to everyone. The Colorado Chautauqua Association honors, respects, and embraces people of all backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences. Chautauqua’s commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion is reflected in everything we do, including our educational and arts programming, our outreach efforts, and our ever-expanding community partnerships. We welcome and encourage diverse perspectives as we continue to learn and grow in partnership with our community.
CCA is committed to expanding our justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) efforts throughout the organization and is committed to the following objectives:
Increasing opportunities for dialogue around JEDI topics.
Actively recruiting Board and staff members with diverse backgrounds.
Offering training and other educational opportunities on JEDI topics for Board members and Chautauqua staff.
Delivering intentional programming that reinforces CCA’s commitment to JEDI objectives.
Developing, expanding, and engaging in partnerships with diverse community organizations.
Communicating the Association’s JEDI goals and actions throughout the Chautauqua community and partner organizations
Nondiscrimination
Chautauqua does not discriminate against any person or organization based on age, race, sex, color, creed, religion, national origin, native language, sexual orientation, transgender status, gender, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, ancestry, marital status, veteran status, military status, political affiliation, or disability.
Land Acknowledgment
We acknowledge that the Colorado Chautauqua Association is located on land that is the current and ancestral homeland of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute peoples. We acknowledge the painful history of genocide, forced assimilation, and efforts to alienate the Indigenous inhabitants from their territory here. We honor and respect the many diverse Indigenous peoples still connected to this land, and their retained tribal sovereignty, treaty rights, and cultural resilience. Indigenous people are the spiritual and physical caretakers of this land to which we all belong.
