Andrew Cowell, Director of the Center for Native American and Indigenous Studies at CU-Boulder, will discuss native plant names, uses and stories, with a focus specifically on the Arapaho. Dr. Cowell has done field work with Arapaho elders in Wyoming and Colorado identifying plants known to them, and has recorded cultural information and stories about the plants as well. As a speaker of the Arapaho language, he can share the names and translations of many plants, both in the Chautauqua gardens and beyond. Meet in Academic Hall.
